Description
A warm and cozy coffee drink that combines brewed coffee with spiced milk for a festive holiday treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (8 fl oz) brewed coffee (your favorite roast)
- 3/4 cup (6 fl oz) whole milk or plant-based milk (oat, almond, or soy)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
- Whipped cream for topping (optional — about 2 tablespoons adds ~50 kcal)
Instructions
- Warm your mug: pour hot water into your serving mug to heat it, then empty and set aside.
- Combine milk and spices: in a small saucepan, combine 3/4 cup milk, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 tbsp brown sugar (plus a pinch of cloves, if using).
- Gently heat: warm the mixture over low-medium heat, whisking frequently until steaming and the sugar dissolves. Do not let it boil — aim for about 150°F (just shy of simmering).
- Froth (optional): if using a handheld frother, transfer the warmed spiced milk and froth until foamy. Otherwise, vigorously whisk by hand for 20–30 seconds to create light foam.
- Brew coffee: pour 1 cup of freshly brewed coffee into the warmed mug.
- Combine: slowly pour the frothed spiced milk over the coffee to create a layered effect. Stir gently if you prefer fully blended.
- Top and serve: crown with whipped cream if desired and sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or cocoa powder. Serve hot with a holiday treat.
Notes
Adjust sweetness before frothing; taste the mixture and add more sugar if needed.
