Description

Crispy, cheesy, and irresistible, these mozzarella sticks are perfect for any gathering or a cozy movie night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese works well)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (enough for 2–3 inches in a skillet)
  • Marinara sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Freeze mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to prevent melting while frying.
  2. Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper in a third.
  3. Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
  4. Dip in beaten egg, ensuring full coverage, then press into the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for a stronger seal.
  5. Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze again for 10–15 minutes.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Let rest for 1 minute before serving.
  9. Serve immediately with warmed marinara sauce.

Notes

Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature; ensure cheese is cold and coated well to prevent leaking.
