Description
Crispy, cheesy, and irresistible, these mozzarella sticks are perfect for any gathering or a cozy movie night.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese works well)
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying (enough for 2–3 inches in a skillet)
- Marinara sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Freeze mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to prevent melting while frying.
- Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper in a third.
- Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off excess.
- Dip in beaten egg, ensuring full coverage, then press into the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for a stronger seal.
- Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze again for 10–15 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Let rest for 1 minute before serving.
- Serve immediately with warmed marinara sauce.
Notes
Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature; ensure cheese is cold and coated well to prevent leaking.
