Description

Pillowy and warm garlic naan bread, perfect for pairing with curries or enjoying on its own, crafted from simple pantry staples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  2. Add the yogurt and warm water; mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth, then let it rest for 30 minutes covered.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls; roll each into an oval shape.
  5. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook the naan on the skillet for 1–2 minutes or until bubbly, then flip and cook the other side.
  7. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For a vegan version, replace yogurt with unsweetened dairy-free yogurt and swap butter for melted olive oil. Ensure dough is soft and slightly tacky for best results.
