Description
Indulge in savory Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks filled with caramelized onions, peppers, and melted provolone cheese, perfect for weeknight dinners or game-day gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference)
- 4 hoagie rolls
- Olive oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Slice the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Split the hoagie rolls without cutting completely through.
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon olive oil into a large skillet and heat over medium-high until shimmering.
- Add sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté for 3–5 minutes until tender and slightly caramelized. Add mushrooms (if using) and cook for 2–3 more minutes.
- Push veggies to one side of the skillet. Add ground beef to the open space, break it apart, and cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
- Mix the beef and vegetables together. Stir in 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook for 1–2 minutes to meld flavors.
- Reduce heat to low. Lay a slice of provolone over each quarter of the beef mixture or cover the skillet with slices and a lid. Allow cheese to melt, about 2–3 minutes.
- Lightly butter and toast the rolls in a separate pan for extra texture (optional).
- Spoon the cheesy beef-and-veg mixture into each roll.
- Serve immediately while melty.
Notes
Consider using leaner ground beef for less fat, substituting provolone with American, Swiss, or pepper jack cheese, or adding spices for a kick. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days and reheated gently.
