Ingredients

- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for dusting)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cooking spray
- About 2 tablespoons granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt; whisk to aerate.
- In another bowl, mix together applesauce, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix gently until a soft dough forms.
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Form dough into bite-sized balls and place in air fryer basket, leaving gaps for air circulation.
- Lightly spray churro bites with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 8–10 minutes until golden brown, flipping halfway if necessary.
- Remove from air fryer and roll warm bites in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
These bites are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored up to 2 days at room temperature or 5 days in the fridge.
