- 10 string cheese sticks (regular mozzarella string cheese)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Olive oil cooking spray
Instructions
- Unwrap each string cheese stick and cut each in half.
- In a small bowl, add the all-purpose flour.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and water.
- In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Dip each cheese stick into the flour, then the egg mixture, and then the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- Place the coated sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Remove sticks from freezer and spray lightly with olive oil.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
Freeze for at least 1 hour to prevent cheese leakage while baking. Avoid over-spritzing oil for optimal crispness.
