Ingredients

  • 10 string cheese sticks (regular mozzarella string cheese)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Olive oil cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Unwrap each string cheese stick and cut each in half.
  2. In a small bowl, add the all-purpose flour.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and water.
  4. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Dip each cheese stick into the flour, then the egg mixture, and then the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring an even coating.
  6. Place the coated sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Remove sticks from freezer and spray lightly with olive oil.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Freeze for at least 1 hour to prevent cheese leakage while baking. Avoid over-spritzing oil for optimal crispness.
