Description
A cozy and delightful breakfast casserole filled with fresh blueberries and a creamy custard.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of bread (preferably challah or brioche)
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Butter (for greasing the dish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place half of them in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the blueberries over the bread, then add the remaining bread cubes on top.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries, ensuring all the bread is soaked.
- Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden and set.
- Serve warm, optionally drizzled with more maple syrup.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using day-old bread and experimenting with different types of fruit or nuts.
