Description

A cozy and delightful breakfast casserole filled with fresh blueberries and a creamy custard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of bread (preferably challah or brioche)
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter (for greasing the dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place half of them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the blueberries over the bread, then add the remaining bread cubes on top.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries, ensuring all the bread is soaked.
  6. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the mixture.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden and set.
  8. Serve warm, optionally drizzled with more maple syrup.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using day-old bread and experimenting with different types of fruit or nuts.
