Description

A delicious mash-up of sloppy joes and Philly cheesesteaks, these sandwiches combine savory beef, sweet onions, and melted provolone for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • Olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and garlic; sauté until softened (about 4–5 minutes).
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat if desired.
  4. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fill each hoagie roll with the sloppy joe mixture and top with a slice of provolone cheese.
  7. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 5–7 minutes until the cheese is melted and rolls are warmed through.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

If you need lower sodium or calories, opt for leaner ground beef, reduced-sodium ketchup, lower-sodium cheese, or smaller rolls.
