Description
A delicious mash-up of sloppy joes and Philly cheesesteaks, these sandwiches combine savory beef, sweet onions, and melted provolone for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- Olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and garlic; sauté until softened (about 4–5 minutes).
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat if desired.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and sauce to thicken slightly.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Fill each hoagie roll with the sloppy joe mixture and top with a slice of provolone cheese.
- Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 5–7 minutes until the cheese is melted and rolls are warmed through.
- Serve hot.
Notes
If you need lower sodium or calories, opt for leaner ground beef, reduced-sodium ketchup, lower-sodium cheese, or smaller rolls.
