Description

Delicious and healthier churro bites made in an air fryer, with a crispy exterior and a soft, cake-like inside, perfect for breakfast or snacks.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cooking spray
  • Optional finishing dust: 1–2 tbsp cinnamon + 2 tbsp coconut sugar or powdered sugar alternative

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon until evenly combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine the coconut or brown sugar, unsweetened applesauce, almond milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms without overmixing.
  5. Lightly oil your hands or dust with flour and shape the dough into small bite-sized pieces (about 1 inch diameter).
  6. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray and arrange dough bites in a single layer.
  7. Air fry for about 8–10 minutes or until golden brown and slightly firm to the touch, rotating or flipping halfway through.
  8. Remove and let cool slightly, then dust them with cinnamon sugar before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for 1–2 days at room temperature, up to 4 days in the refrigerator, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer for best results.
