Description
Delicious and healthier churro bites made in an air fryer, with a crispy exterior and a soft, cake-like inside, perfect for breakfast or snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Cooking spray
- Optional finishing dust: 1–2 tbsp cinnamon + 2 tbsp coconut sugar or powdered sugar alternative
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon until evenly combined.
- In another bowl, combine the coconut or brown sugar, unsweetened applesauce, almond milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms without overmixing.
- Lightly oil your hands or dust with flour and shape the dough into small bite-sized pieces (about 1 inch diameter).
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray and arrange dough bites in a single layer.
- Air fry for about 8–10 minutes or until golden brown and slightly firm to the touch, rotating or flipping halfway through.
- Remove and let cool slightly, then dust them with cinnamon sugar before serving.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for 1–2 days at room temperature, up to 4 days in the refrigerator, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer for best results.
