Description
Delicious heart-shaped sugar cookies that are tender, buttery, and perfect for any celebration.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups (about 344 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon fine salt
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Decorative icing or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing on low until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, press into a disk, and wrap in plastic. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into heart shapes. Transfer them to prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set and just beginning to turn golden. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Decorate as desired with icing, sprinkles, or powdered sugar.
Notes
Chill the dough to prevent spreading and keep edges crisp. Use a thin spatula for transferring cookies.
